Energetic House Cleansing: A Shamanic Practice

What is an energetic house cleansing and does it have anything to do with spring cleaning?

Today, I had the honour of donning my Shamanic practitioners hat (What is a Shamanic Practitioner? - Society for Shamanic Practice) and being entrusted with energetically cleansing a soon-to-be family home. Think less mop and bucket and more Ghostbusters. Although a caped version. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

I am proud to call myself, amongst other things, a Shamanic practitioner. In very basic terms, we can help to restore energetic balance. Many people are aware of this happening to people, perhaps in terms of a soul retrieval or an extraction, but it also applies to the physical world around us.

Have you ever stepped into a room or building and just felt a heaviness? Or perhaps walked through a bit of the woodland that feels particularly cold or sad in some way? In the same way that we pick up and carry negative imprints from our experiences, so does the tangible world. A building or landscape may have witnessed trauma, sadness or just housed countless unsettled people.

The home I worked on today simply had a heaviness about it, as soon as you stepped over the threshold. Like a dark fogginess. I worked to lighten the feel of the rooms and corridor. Having opened the windows, I went into every corner of the home and replaced stagnant energy with fresh energy, completing the energetic house cleansing. I used a variety of spiritual techniques from healing sounds to smoky sage. In many ways, it is like spring cleaning. And that is exactly why rooms feel better when you do a deep cleanse. People look at me oddly when I say I’m off to cleanse a house. I think they have visions of me in my ceremonial cape with a mop and scrubbing brush. So, I hope that this brings some clarity!

This practice can be great when you are moving into a new property, especially before any furniture arrives. Then you can really guarantee the spiritual cleanliness of your new haven.
